A Candida infection is also commonly referred to as a yeast infection, or yeast infestation. Many species live in symbiosis with other organisms, as in the case of mammals, including humans, being referred to as endosymbiotes. These relationships are not mutual, which means that the host generally does not gain much in terms of benefit, while the “tenant” lives free. Many times however, these Candida species become opportunistic in nature, that is they lie dormant until a time that the body’s immune system is compromised, before launching an attack, manifested as external yeast infections( common in women), or more serious systemic infections(in blood), which entail relatively high mortality rates

One of the most common causes of yeast infections is following antibiotic treatment. What prolonged antibiotic usage does is effectively reduce the population of bacterial organisms, both good and parasitic, causing an imbalance of fungi: bacteria ratio. Candida infections result in many health conditions, certain ones being more characteristic than others. Common clinical features demonstrated by Candida infections include spontaneous fatigue, loss of mental clarity, vaginal discharge or balanitis in men.

Treatment of Candida infections is generally multi-faceted, with medical backup a must. In recent years, the efficacy of grapefruit seed extract has been studied, with positive results. To begin, grapefruit seed extract was found to be equi-potent to many synthetic antibiotics available to man. The amazing this about this however, is the fact that it is virtually absent of the ill effects associated with today’s antibiotic usage. Added to the fact that it has an astounding safety margin, it follows that it should be employed whenever appropriate. Candida infections, are however fungal in origin, not bacterial, so you might be wondering how this comes into play. The beauty though, is the fact that grapefruit seed extract is also a fungicidal agent. It may be an overstatement to claim that grapefruit seed extract alone is sufficient to cure Candida infections, but once necessary supporting steps are taken it acts fine as a medical stand alone.

A necessary modification that must be made, is to the diet. If on average, you consume foods high in sugar, made from yeast or molds, or fermented in nature, many fruits and syrups including molasses and honey sources, they must be discontinued for the time being. The reason for this is that yeast and other fungi thrive on many sugar sources, and avoiding foods with inherent yeast content is obvious.

Ideally, a Candida extermination programme, including diet should be done for around four weeks. Grapefruit seed extract is usually introduced after the first successful week of dieting; this is to ensure all requirements are in place before employing the big gun. Avoiding alcoholic drinks and supplementing with an effective probiotic drug also bides well with this step. According to a study of 297 persons infected with Candida, only 2 failed to achieve satisfactory results after treatment with grapefruit seed extract, with the possibility remaining that maybe their diets were still not up to par.

The usual starting dose of grapefruit seed extract is around 10 drops taken twice daily in water or selected fruit juices, between meal times. This is done for the first three days, following which the dose is increased to 15 drops twice daily, for a further 7 days. Following this period, until completion the dose is increased to 15 drops three times daily, with a complete clearance of symptoms within the 28 day period. It is very scarce to see a patient requiring continued treatment, but owing to the safe nature of GSE, it may be used for up to 4 to 6 months to eradicate stubborn infections. Because of the bitter taste of GSE liquid extract, overdosing is a rare occurrence, and is one of the primary reasons persons switch to the capsule form instead. Conversion of liquid to capsules is roughly 10 drops to 1 capsule, so if a simple change of dosage from increases patient compliance, by all means try it.

The grapefruit is typically a sour fruit that grows on evergreen trees that can be as high as 15 m tall. The fruit itself can grow in diameter up to 15 cm and its flesh is acidic. There are different cultivars ranging in color from pink to red and even to white pulps. The colors always refer to the internal pulp and not the skin. It began to grow in popularity in the 19th century, with the United States becoming a leading producer. While many people enjoy it even as a fruit, others prefer to drink grapefruit juice so that they can reap the rewards that comes with the many nutrients it contains. Known for being a good source of vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants, it also helps to lower bad cholesterol. In addition to that, it is rumored that grapefruit juice can help to burn fat by speeding up the body’s metabolism, due to its low glycemic index. If weight loss is your ultimate goal, then you should consider the juice diet which consists of consuming all kinds of juices to help you lose fat, including grapefruit juice.

Spermidine, a simple polymine, is required for normal cell growth, and grapefruit juice and the fruit itself contain a large amount of it. In tests with human immune cells and mice, the increased amount of spermidine extended their lifespans. There are very few calories in unsweetened grapefruit juice, and it brings a good amount of fiber, carbohydrates, and protein.

How Grapefruit Juice Can Improve Your Health

With its level of acidity, it produces an alkaline reaction, helping to improve the digestive system. The pectin and Vitamin C keep arteries healthy for better overall health. It is also believed to stop the growth of breast cancer cells in patients. For diabetics, the juice will help to keep blood sugar levels low. High levels of cholesterol can be reduced by consuming this juice, as it reduces the production of this waxy substance that can lead to heart disease. Pregnant women should consider increasing their intake of grapefruit juice to avoid edema and water retention in the legs. It is known for its anti-cancer properties, which can help to protect against pancreatic and stomach cancers.

In addition to all the above benefits, it is also a great solution for everyday issues, like fatigue. Mix it with an equal amount of lemon juice and add some honey to revive yourself. A glass of juice at night will help those who suffer from insomnia and will promote sleep. If you feel a cold coming on, such as with a sore throat and a cough, drinking a glass will relieve much of the discomfort and pain, and will help to soothe coughs. It can also reduce fever, as well. Another way that this incredible juice can help you is with your weight-loss goals. Its fat-burning enzymes can put your metabolism to work by absorbing starches and sugars in the body.

These are just a few of the many benefits that this wonderful fruit juice brings to people who want to improve their health. Do the research to see how it can help you with your health issues.

The grapefruit diet became popular in the 1970s. It also goes by the name Hollywood diet and has an unclear connection to the Mayo clinic (which makes no claim to the diet). The diet has also been called the 10-day diet.

The concept of the diet states very simply that grapefruit contains a special fat-burning enzyme and when consumed with meals that are high in fat and protein yet low in carbohydrates this property of the grapefruit will burn fat and stimulate weight loss.

The original grapefruit diet was designed to be followed for 10 to 12 days followed by a two day break before resuming the diet. When followed incorrectly by reducing calories too much the diet can be potentially dangerous to a person’s health. This diet is also not recommended for people who are taking certain medications or are allergic to citrus fruits.

The original documented grapefruit diet seems to be a predecessor to the modern-day Atkins diet minus the grapefruit. A study was conducted where participants ate a healthy diet instead of the original high-fat, low-carbohydrate version and it was determined that the addition of the grapefruit seemed to reduce insulin levels which naturally resulted in fat loss.

A typical menu on the grapefruit diet could look something like this:

Breakfast

2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon and ½ grapefruit or an 8 ounce glass of grapefruit juice

Lunch

Garden salad with unlimited dressing, unlimited meat and ½ grapefruit or an 8 ounce glass of grapefruit juice

Dinner

Serving of non-starchy vegetables (such as red cabbage or leafy greens), unlimited meat or fish and ½ grapefruit or an 8 ounce glass of grapefruit juice

While the diet allows unlimited butter, salad dressing and oils for food preparation the only beverages allowed are water, black coffee or tea and unsweetened grapefruit juice. A bedtime snack of an 8 ounce glass of skim milk is allowed.

While most experts agree that most versions of the grapefruit diet are so low in calories that participants would lose weight with or without the grapefruit the low glycemic index of the fruit is noteworthy. Current studies have proven that foods with a low glycemic index are known to lower blood sugar levels and cause people to feel fuller for a longer period of time which naturally translates into weight loss.

There is not enough scientific evidence to deem grapefruit a magic potion for weight loss and most nutritionists agree that the lack of variety of foods associated with the grapefruit diet is a recipe for boredom and cannot be adapted as a lifestyle for a long period of time. While the diet may stimulate some weight loss in the short-term this weight will be mostly fluid which is quickly gained back.

The extreme nature of the diet along with it short-comings in terms of balanced nutrition place the grapefruit diet in the category of a crash diet. Most crash diets are ineffective or only effective in the short-term and can also cause serious health problems if used repeatedly or over a long period of time.

While physicians and nutritionists alike agree that grapefruit is a good food, low in calories, high in dietary fiber and vitamin C it should be eaten as a part of a healthy, balanced diet and not considered a miracle weight loss solution.

Grapefruit seed extract, chia seed, almond oil, honey, salt, and even mint can soothe irritated skin, improve digestion, and work in a host of ways on the human body. However, in recent years, grapefruit seed extract based products and chia seeds products are slowly become popular due to the huge range of benefits that they offer. These are completely different products but they work well in a range of ways like-

Grapefruit Seed Extract
This is also referred to as citrus seed extract and is usually provided as a liquid derived from the seeds, white membrane and pulp of a grapefruit. Although the extract is available commercially, it can be made at home too by grinding the seeds and juiceless pulp and combining it with glycerin. Usually, this extract is used in cosmetics due to its natural antimicrobial properties but it is also used as a food supplement due to its high antimicrobial, anti fungal, and anti viral properties. The exact nutritional value of the extract is not known but it does seem to have a large range of antioxidant properties, flavonoids, tocopherols and limonoids which make it ideal for decreasing the adverse effects of ageing.

Chia Seeds
Chia seeds are grown commercially as these have a very high nutritional value. The seeds are particularly rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and Alpha linoleic acid and can be consumed in the form of the whole seed, as a raw powder or whole after soaking overnight. The soaked seeds have particularly high gelatin content and they are used in several cultures to make gruels, pudding and porridges. However, the seeds have limited use in cosmetics. Chia seeds are distinctly different from grape fruit seed extracts and they are used differently too.

Grapefruit seed extract has a variety of benefits for both humans and pets. When used, in small amounts, as an addition to a dog’s water bowl, the extract can greatly reduce the risk of bacterial growth in the water. It can also be used to reduce the amounts of bacteria and infection-causing materials from raw meats and other foods. The extract can be highly beneficial in improving the health of a dog and in preventing illness and infection.

Many people use grapefruit seed extract for dogs, in their food and water. The extract is highly successful in removing germs and bacteria from water bowls and can also be used in food bowls for the same purpose. Because dog’s bowls can be so a popular breeding ground for bacteria, this extract can be hugely helpful in preventing illness and infection.

The extract can also be used to repeal bacteria from raw meat and other dog foods. While dogs are often more resilient to the bacteria’s present in raw meats and other foods, it is still highly possible that they can contract illnesses or infections from them. Using a small amount of grapefruit seed extract in these foods can prevent germs from spreading and coming in contact with a dog. This will prevent future illness and possibly even huge veterinarian fees.

When used in moderation, grapefruit extract can be highly beneficial to preventing illness in dogs. The extract can be used to kill and prevent bacteria in a dog’s water dish and in their food.

Grapefruit seed extract is most commonly used to reduce symptoms of sore throat, colds, and other common ailments. When used on the skin, the extract can reduce skin growths and infection. The extract can improve general health and can also be used to prevent germs in the household and for pets. However, many medical professionals advise pregnant women to use the extract with caution, as it is a very powerful substance that has not been fully investigated or studied.

Most often, grapefruit extract is harmless, and can actually be very beneficial to overall health and safety. When used in moderation, most individuals report that the extract reduces many symptoms of ill health and is highly useful in cleaning substances. However, because it has not been properly studied, many have expressed concern about grapefruit seed extract pregnancy problems. While most claim that it can be used during pregnancy, they advise that it be used with caution and in limited amounts. Thus, pregnant women should limit their use of the extract and should use smaller amounts of it until they are sure that they have not experienced any adverse reactions.

Pregnant women can still enjoy the benefits of grapefruit seed extract, but should do so only under the medical advice of a trained professional. It is possible that the extract can not only cause problems to the unborn child, but can also cause negative interactions with other drugs. Only a doctor can fully explain the benefits and possible downsides to using the extract during pregnancy.

Liquid grapefruit seed extract has a number of uses as a dietary supplement and preventative against certain health issues. Its organic properties are healing and soothing, while acting as an antifungal and antibacterial agent. It can be applied externally or taken internally depending on the desired effect. The extract is very popular among organic food enthusiasts, since most commercial seed extracts are also marketed as being grown organically. It is made by pressing the freshly harvested seeds of grapefruits, with no additional additives or chemicals, only naturally occurring properties.

One of the most prominent uses for this natural extract is internal use for the aid of stomach problems. Since it works as an antibacterial, it can be taken for infections or stomach upsets that are caused by infections. If you are prone to any stomach or digestive system conditions that are caused by the upset of your digestive flora or beneficial bacteria, talk to a medical professional before adding the extract to your diet. For people with relatively healthy digestive systems, it can be highly beneficial taken occasionally for stomach upsets. It can also be taken in smaller amounts occasionally as a general preventative, but its effectiveness may decrease as your body becomes used to it.

The antibacterial properties of grapefruit seed oil also make it a great topical application for bacterial infections or skin conditions, including acne, eczema or psoriasis-like conditions or outbreaks. It can be applied lightly to shallow or superficial skin wounds to prevent infection, although it should not be used in deep puncture wounds or burns. The extract also works well as an antifungal agent. Many people apply it topically to fungal skin infections such as athlete’s foot.

Anyone who is already taking medications, whether prescription or over-the-counter, should seek the opinion of their medical professional or a pharmacist before adding any supplement to their diet, including natural supplements such as liquid grapefruit seed extract. While natural extracts can work well as a preventative and be beneficial to your health, interactions are possible between any drugs you take, including organic or natural agents, and it is important to know how the seed extract will affect you. However, for those who will not have adverse interactions, grapefruit seed oil makes an effective antibacterial or antifungal agent that can be taken for a number of common ailments. For many people, this extract can be a good occasional topical application or internal supplement to their diet.

Grapefruit seed extract is also called citrus extract. It is a liquid that comes from the pulp and seeds of the grapefruit. Naturally, this substance is made in a laboratory without adding synthetic additives. It is used in the cosmetic industry and in the health care industry as an antifungal supplement. If a person wants to use this, it is vital to be careful as to not purchase one of commercial grade. This is mixed with glycerin and other synthetic ingredients which may bring harm to the body.

The usefulness of grapefruit extract as a supplement has proven to eliminate harmful items that cause health problems. It boosts energy and the immune system by aiding the intestinal bacteria to fight disease. It can also be made into topical treatments as well. Creams can treat skin conditions like acne. Cosmetic companies place this ingredient in facial cleansers, shampoos, or in certain nail products. In the kitchen, it can be a cleanser for vegetables, fruits, and meat. It can be used as a disinfectant for utensils and toothbrushes in the bathroom.

This substance can be of use for people of any age. Very few individuals have had negative side effects because of it. The only precautions to be taken are for pregnant women or those breastfeeding. Also, those on prescription blood pressure medication should not use a supplement containing this either.

Very few things found in nature have the beneficial properties of grapefruit seed extract. As with any supplement, it is wise to consult a doctor or physician. As long as the supplement is used according to the directions, there should be no harmful side effects.

The last few years have seen rise in the number of diet and healthy living trends. Grapefruit seed extract is one of the latest trends to hit the markets but how much do people really know about this health food?

Grapefruit seed extract is a liquid taken from the seeds and pulp of grapefruit. It can be ingested and used as an alternative to antibiotics, a cure for sore throats, intestinal problems and yeast infections. It can also be used topically for a variety of skin ailments. The lingering question now seems to be is grapefruit seed extract safe? All research points to yes, at least for the most part. Some people with certain conditions may have to take extra precautions when taking it or not take it at all and as with anything we put in out bodies, moderation is key. When it comes to pregnant women, there have been no cases brought forward and no evidence to prove that it should not be used but as with anything else, a woman who is pregnant should consult her doctor before using it. If you are taking certain prescription drugs, you could have a reaction to the extract. Ask your doctor which drugs should not be mixed with it.

There is some evidence of toxicity is people who have taken large amounts of grapefruit seed extract so here is a list of symptoms you could experience if you take more than recommended:
1) Muscle weakness
2) Decreased effectiveness of any medications you may be taking
3) Stomach irritation

Not many people have reactions to it at all and almost always, the reactions are caused by taking too much if it. It is best to take it for a specific problem and to stop for a while when the problem clears up because no one knows yet if there are any long term usage side effects. That being said, the benefits of grapefruit seed extract seem to far outweigh any possible negative side effects. Used in moderation, it can be used as a healthy addition to any diet and its uses don’t stop there. Many people claim that when applied topically, the extract works great on dry skin, wrinkles, oily skin and even scalp problems. It is also effective in treating cuts and bruises and insect bites and will not damage or harm the skin as long as you dilute it with a bit of clean water!

Tonsil stones are an unpleasant condition that can be developed at the back of the throat. If you have been troubled by this problem for any length of time, perhaps you have despaired of finding a cure. So you may be surprised to hear that tonsil stones grapefruit seed extract can really work.

Tonsil stones, or tonsilloliths, often appear as white lumps at the back of the throat. It is not clear what causes them to form in the first place, but the tonsils are there to catch foreign bodies and infections entering your mouth. To do this they have lots of tiny pockets, called crypts, which trap particles passing through the throat. When mucus running down the throat gets trapped in these pockets and mixes with dead cells and bacteria, this mixture sometimes calcifies, that is, turns into a stone-like substance. These little stones often produce no symptoms. However, if you suffer from chronic bad breath, this is most likely to be the cause.

In fact, bad breath is often the reason why people desperately look for a cure for tonsilloliths. Bad breath can cause great distress and result in social isolation. If regular brushing of teeth and using ordinary mouthwash are not stopping the bad breath, it may be time to consider tonsil stones grapefruit seed extract.

Grapefruit seed extract is manufactured from the seeds of the grapefruit plus the pulp and membranes. It is very highly concentrated, so that one small 2-ounce bottle could be enough to solve the problem. This high level of distillation means that the powerful antimicrobial, antifungal and antibacterial properties of the grapefruit are multiplied and concentrated into a very small dose. Because the grapefruit has an alkalizing effect, it neutralizes the acid which is responsible for allowing agents of infection, including viruses, bacteria and fungi, to grow.

You can take tonsil stones grapefruit seed extract in either liquid or capsule form, the capsules being the equivalent of 10 drops of the liquid. For tonsil stones, the most effective method of taking it is gargling. After every meal, add two drops to a cup of water and gargle for one minute. Most people find that it takes about seven days for the mixture to dissolve the stones, so that they can be dislodged from the pockets of the tonsils.

This condition can be very distressing, especially if it causes persistent bad breath. The only permanent method of dealing with the problem is a tonsillectomy, or removal of the tonsils. However, tonsil stones grapefruit seed extract has proved effective in countless clinical trials, so if you try this you could avoid such a drastic solution.
